Inspiration
Gael approaches art with an instinctive, almost primal urgency. For him, art is not something to be revered from a distance—it is a necessity. His process is fluid and immersive, often working on multiple pieces simultaneously, moving between canvases, standing, crouching, or working on the floor. His creations engage in a dialogue not only with him but also with the surrounding space, resulting in pieces that pulse with energy and raw emotion.
Gaël Froget (b. 1986) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is a reflection of his ever-evolving personal journey. His influences stem from lived experiences, continuously shaping his dynamic artistic expression. This sense of movement and transformation is at the core of his practice, making his work both spontaneous and deeply introspective.
Recurring themes in Gael’s creations include fashion, freedom, the history of Mauritius, human behavior, nature, the impact of fast fashion and consumerism, self-image, and beauty standards. His style is a fusion of diverse influences—drawing inspiration from contemporary African art as well as iconic artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Pablo Picasso, Keith Haring, Francis Bacon, and Jenny Saville.
